“But let justice flow like a river and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Amos 5:24
At Covenant Life Church Leicester we have been deeply saddened by recent events, and recognise the deep hurt and great injustice caused by the recent appalling acts of racism. We want to be clear that we believe all racism is evil and has no place in the multi-racial world that God has created. We also acknowledge and abhor the systemic racism that exists in the world, and affirm that this must be brought to an end.
We pray for those Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic people who have suffered and continue to suffer from racial prejudice, inequality and injustice. We stand with those who are oppressed, and with those who have had their lives cruelly taken from them. God has created all people equal in His own image. Therefore, we confidently believe and say that all humanity is equally loved and valued by Him.
The kingdom of God is centred upon Jesus Christ as Lord of all. In His kingdom there are people of every nation, tribe and language – a great celebration of diversity in unity, joined together through the love of Jesus. Whatever our cultural background or colour of our skin, male and female, we are one in Christ.
We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to save, heal, and transform lives. We also believe that as we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and follow Him, it will require change in our personal lives, church communities, and society at large. We are committed to this; working together to bring reconciliation and restoration to the world we live in.
To this end we will listen to the cries of a hurting world, and we will listen and learn from the experiences of our brothers and sisters. We will pray for God’s kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven, and we will take action to bring lasting change within ourselves, our families, the church, and society.
