Advent Day Nineteen ✨
I really enjoy the Christmas season and this year I am so excited to be hosting all my family, including the NZ contingent. I have been planning and preparing for months, considering gifts for my little grandsons - carefully selecting firm favourites from superheroes & space aliens to cuddly toys & pyjamas.

Similarly, the gifts that the three wise men presented to Jesus - gold, frankincense & myrrh, were extremely costly & rare treasures, worthy of a KING, not random & indiscriminate, but deliberately chosen to reflect and recognise his identity ‘...where is the one who has been born KING of the Jews?’ Matthew 2:2

As the Magi laid these precious offerings before Jesus, they were honouring his majesty & power, expressing hearts full of worship & praise and demonstrating sacrificial love and humility to the KING OF KINGS ‘...when they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.’ Matthew 2:10 - 11

Jesus himself is the most precious gift to us from the Father - he was born to be the Servant & Saviour of us all, setting us free and filling us with hope, peace & joy - not only during the Christmas season, but every day.

But I am also so grateful this Christmas that Jesus was born KING - the KING of all kings and LORD of all Lords. KING Jesus is seated on His throne, worthy and deserving of all glory, all honour, all praise & thanksgiving, full of justice, grace, mercy & truth and He ever overflows with unfailing LOVE.

Christmas calls us to worship. In the midst of the ‘sparkle & spangle’ that we all enjoy, like the three wise men, let us consider the ‘gifts’ that we bring to Jesus - I am stirred again to bow before Him, offering daily, all that I am & all that I have to serve Him and pursue his purpose in all respects.

Jesus, the KING OF GLORY offered himself as a humble servant for our freedom, let us enthrone him afresh in our lives - HE IS WORTHY!

This song was written almost 40 years ago, but contains truth that is eternal - I hope enjoy it.

In the midst of the glittering lights and festive chaos, I’m reminded of the heart of Christmas – the story that's more than just news; it's "good news of great joy" (Luke 2:10). This good news isn't exclusive; it's for all of us, no matter how weary, broken, or tired we may feel.

Picture yourself at the manger, just as you are – weary, broken, and tired. In that humble setting, a profound truth unfolds. The invitation is clear – come to the manger as you are. But here's the beautiful twist. Once you truly come to Him, you'll never be the same. That's the good news of great joy embedded in the Christmas story.

It's a universal message, reaching out to the weary and the broken. In the quiet of the manger, where heaven meets earth, there's an invitation for transformation. Jesus’ birth, echoed in Luke 2:10, isn't just a tale of the past; it's a living narrative inviting me and you to experience joy in the midst of weariness.

So, as you immerse yourself in the festive melodies and the warmth of the season, let this truth resonate: the birth of Jesus is an open invitation for all people, a reminder that in our brokenness, we find restoration.

Words inspired by the melody of a Christmas song I just can't stop listening to, “O Come All You Unfaithful” by Sovereign Grace Music. It is a timeless reminder that once you come to Him, the transformative joy becomes the melody of your own story, for He is Emmanuel – God WITH us.

Advent Day Twenty-Three ✨
We all know about the three wise men in the Christmas story ... but what about the three wise women? Do we find them in the Christmas story? How do find them? We have a clue- the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So we need to search for women who displayed the fear of the Lord. And who do we find?

A young woman willing to be boycotted & to put her life in danger within her community as a direct consequence of being obedient to God's will for her life.

An older woman who knew the shame within her community of being childless but who trusted God to answer her prayers for a child.

A very old woman who knew the loneliness & struggles of widowhood at an early age but who trusted God to meet her needs & desires.

Each one was a woman who we read rejoiced and praised God & all displayed a fear of the Lord and thus true Wisdom. And each one found their heart’s desire … as they delighted in God.

One became the mother of Jesus- Mary

One had a son who was to prepare the way for Jesus- Elizabeth

One had the joy of seeing Jesus, the Son of God – the Messiah she had prayed to see her whole life- Anna

All three overflowed with their praise & joy at the birth of Jesus.

To know personally God answers prayers and can be trusted with our lives.

Each one of us is called to be a wise woman...or man – to live our lives in the Fear of the Lord and to experience the adventure of seeing Him answering our prayers as we commit to knowing Jesus as Lord of our lives.
